FAQ

Ekosetiawangsa is an initiative to make Setiawangsa an eco-district of sustainable living and lifestyle.

In 2021, Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur launched the Wangsa Maju Carbon Neutral Growth Centre 2050 Action Plan in which Setiawangsa has been earmarked as among the pilot area for carbon neutral initiatives. Through this Action Plan, 20 initiatives have been identified and will be implemented in phases.

To support the efforts by DBKL, we believe that a collaborative bottom-up effort is equally important. The involvement of all stakeholders; residents, commercial entities, associations and NGOs in sustainability practices would make the vision of Ekosetiawangsa truly sustainable.

Similar to any other cities in Malaysia, Setiawangsa faces various challenges related to climate change including hotter temperatures, more severe storms, flash floods, water shortage and many others. However, there are solutions to this and that is by changing our lifestyle to become more sustainable.

Ekosetiawangsa is an effort to transform Setiawangsa to become and eco-district to enhance the well-being of citizens and society. Ekosetiawangsa is built on four main pillars namely, Powering Setiawangsa, Mobility and Connectivity, Waste Wise and Vibrant Community; with the aim of making Setiawangsa a truly sustainable place to live.

An eco-district is an area where everything; energy consumption, GHG emissions, pollution, waste, water and mobility is organised and managed in the best possible way to make the lifestyle of city dwellers more pleasant and sustainable.

It fosters a cooperative, integrated, neighbour-to-neighbour approach to building community. Sustainable development practices are utilised to build on a community’s strengths, identify ways to bring opportunity for growth into the neighbourhood, and prioritise equity, resiliency, and climate protection in the planning process.

  • Environmental Impact – By adopting sustainable practices, you can reduce your carbon footprint and minimize your impact on the environment. This includes conserving energy, reducing waste, and choosing eco-friendly products, which collectively help in preserving natural resources and biodiversity.

  • Climate Change Mitigation – Sustainable lifestyles contribute to mitigating climate change by lowering greenhouse gas emissions. This is crucial in combating global warming and its associated impacts such as extreme weather events, sea level rise, and disruption of ecosystems.

  • Resource Conservation – Sustainable living promotes the efficient use of resources such as water, energy, and materials. By using resources responsibly, you help ensure their availability for future generations and reduce the strain on natural ecosystems.

  • Health and Well-being – Many sustainable practices, such as eating locally grown foods and reducing exposure to harmful chemicals, can positively impact personal health. Clean air, safe water, and access to nutritious food are essential components of a healthy lifestyle.

Ultimately, practicing a sustainable lifestyle is not only beneficial for the planet and future generations but also enhances personal well-being and fosters a sense of responsibility towards creating a more equitable and resilient world.
