Envisioning Ekosetiawangsa
Background
- Establishment of Setiawangsa as the first eco-district in Malaysia by implementing a comprehensive hyper-local sustainability action plan involving all stakeholders;residents, commercial entities, associations, NGO’s and the Local Authority.
- It will be a collaborative bottom-up effort facilitated and supported by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES), Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC), URBANICE Malaysia, Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL), Yayasan Hijau, Malaysian Green Building Council (MGBC) and other partners.
Objective & Definition
- The objective is to establish Setiawangsa as an eco-district
- An eco-district is an urban area where everything; energy consumption, GHG emissions, pollution, waste, water and mobility is organised and managed in the best possible way to make the lifestyle of city dwellers more pleasant and sustainable.
- It fosters a cooperative, integrated, neighbour-to-neighbour approach to building community. Sustainable development practices are utilised to build on a community’s strengths, identify ways to bring opportunity for growth into the neighbourhood, and prioritise equity, resiliency, and climate protection in the planning process.
